Tanabata Festival

Tomorrow (July 7th) is the traditional date for the Tanabata Festival. Observed throughout Japan, the festival marks the meeting of two the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair), who are separated lovers allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh month.

You write your wish on a small piece of paper, tie it to bamboo, and hope for the best. There are also many decorations, poems and songs.

The more famous festivals (such as the one in Sendai), are held according to the original lunar calendar, and so take place in August. In Aichi, one of the most famous locations is in Anjo City. More information here:
